Where Are The Biggest Gold Deposits?

Since the early ages people have done everything that stood in their power to get gold to the surface. The fact that this metal was extremely rare and very hard to find made it even more valuable than it is now. Thanks to modern technologies used to mine for precious metals, nowadays the procedures are still difficult, but not like in the past.. Even if for years huge quantities of metal have been discovered, specialists say that the natural resources are far from being exhausted. In some areas the yellow metal still waits to be found.

Each continent on the globe has had and still has rich deposits of gold. However, along the years, the top has changed, but the first three positions have been interchangeable. Specialists consider that Australia, South Africa and Nevada are the three most important producers of the yellow metal. Nowadays the largest deposits of gold are still in South Africa, even though in 2007 its production was surpassed by that of China. Professionals say this has happened not because the deposits have been exhausted, but because of the high costs of production. Unlike China, South Africa had to implement stringent regulations in what concerns the safety of the miners.

Statistics say that approximately 40 % of all the gold mined in the past decades came from the large deposit in South Africa, called the Rand. It is situated in the Witwatersrand Basin. Scientists consider it to be the largest one of this kind and have tried to reveal its origins. It seems that the formation of these deposits dates back to billions of years exactly like in the case of the precious metal found in California. Water brought to the surface only extremely small parts of what is underground. US Geological Survey estimated that South Africa owns 6000 metric tons of the yellow metal that waits to be found by mining companies.

Another very large gold deposit is that of the Carlin Trend in Nevada. In fact Nevada is the main supplier for the United States, producing approximately 80 % of the total American precious metal. This is the richest area and each year new deposits are found, making it clear that there is still gold to be mined for many years.

Mine owners are among the richest people on the planet. They and gold investors in general know that buying gold bullion no matter under what form is a great way to make money. This precious metal has been appreciated for so many years that it has turned investing in it in a very successful business.
