Prepare for Economic Collapse Without Gold

Many people are trying to prepare for any further down-turns in the economy. Too many of the populace have no money spare to invest in gold or silver and go to bed at night terrified of what might happen to their families without such reserves. Those who sell gold and silver bullion are capitalizing on this feeding frenzy, as evidenced by the rapid and still increasing rise in the prices of those metals.

Let’s take a step back and sit down a minute and contemplate exactly what we are preparing for. Thinking about what might happen and then planning for those types of circumstances makes much more sense. The bottom line is not about making money if everything collapses; it’s about survival. Pure, simple, food and water, shelter and safety…that’s it. Sure it would be nice to have some coin to pay for things that are needed but if you don’t have that AND don’t have the basic needs, your survival is indeed threatened.

The people in the know about government plans are already talking about how the government is planning to outlaw gold again and go house to house, confiscating every bit of gold it can get. That’s right folks, not just bullion but also your favorite gold jewelry, and they might not stop with gold. Silver is a precious metal too and is far more necessary than gold for some processes in industry and health; likewise copper.

Think about what other people who are displaced would need. Even an extra pair of socks would be something a barefoot person would be willing to trade coin for, and a pair of hiking boots would be ideal. How about a flint, raingear or cable saw? Or a breathable fabric hat with a rain cover? Or a jar of petrolatum jelly, bandages or antibiotic ointment?

The wise advisors are suggesting that MRE’s (Meals Ready to Eat, dehydrated food) might become more valuable than gold. Of course any military action might require you give up all of your food too. So what is one to do, given these horrible scenarios? In light of recent evidence that the “manna” fed to the Israelites wandering in the desert for 40 years was actually chlorella algae, perhaps we should stockpile of bunch of that. The military would revolt if served that as a steady diet!

As far as the other items for survival go, now would be the time to start looking for a good tent, sleeping bags, knives, backpacks, clothing that wicks away moisture and keeps one warm and dry, etc. Even those with limited funds can often find suitable items at the thrift stores or online with free recycle sites such as freecycle.org, listia.com, freemesa.org, and others. Make up a go-pack (see my previous articles on emergency kits, bug-out kits and other preparations) and have it someplace close to the door so you can grab it and run.

Having emergency preparations ready to go will take a lot of stress out of life. Just knowing that water, food, clothing and shelter items are ready in case a sudden evacuation is necessary-for whatever reason-can help clear the mind so it can deal with the day to day nonsense currently going on. Don’t count on being able to take your car either; be sure your pack includes a good pair of hiking boots…and duct tape (you can do a lot with duct tape). After all, how stressful would it be to know a hostile army is driving right at your street and you have to leave immediately with whatever you can carry? Can you grab your pack and get out, or would you be caught standing in the kitchen, frozen with fear and wondering what you should take?
