Ancient tribal or horde leaders, principalities, kingdoms, empires and to this day, presidents of countries, heads of banks and firms, to ordinary people, wanted gold either for themselves or for their countries’ treasury, from a simple necklace, ring, earring or ingot, up to as much as possible, either to show off their power, wealth, social status or in order to put aside a surplus for “rainy days.”
Why gold? It is because it is the most precious metal found in sufficient quantities, but still not plentiful as other ferrous and nonferrous metals.
Why is gold precious? Objectively, because it doesn’t oxidize and it preserves its shine over time, but also because of difficult extraction and quantitative limits, however its price has always been rising over centuries. The subjective reason is that it’s just very coveted, desired and sought in order to add value to the owner, even beautifying him or her, if it is in the form of jewelry. Since the beginning of their existence on Earth and to satisfy their own ego and membership of a group or in a hierarchy, humans wore or “marked” themselves with various ornaments.
The more jewelry a person had, the more he was satisfied with his ego and was recognized in society. Gold has been included in all the primary desires of the people regarding the position on social statuses all around the world.
That was the beginning and so it is today, man was, is and will be sure of the gold’s value and beauty. Gold’s value will rise infinitely even after the reserves will be exhausted, or it will be impossible to get deeper under the Earth’s crust to bring it to surface, and then, people who own gold will be very wealthy.
Gold’s price has risen in the last 38 years from about 65 USD per ounce (1 ounce = 31.1034768 grams) to 1,187 USD.
Without any doubt, if you think about the events and how many crises have happened in the last 38 years and the fact that gold’s value has constantly increased, you can decide for yourself that gold is a metal worth investing in.
The modern term of crisis originates from the old Latin word for gold (chryseus or chrysos), which shows that the lack of desired quantities of gold in ancient times meant it was a crisis, because gold was the most important symbol for wealth ever.
In conclusion, for the past 30-40 years, gold had and will continue to be an investment which value has known a significant increase and only minor decreases.
In other words, it is more desirable to consider gold and golden jewelry as a safe investment, given its history and continuously increasing trends, beauty and value.
