Christians Investing in Gold - Is It Right?

A lot of Christians investing in gold often wonder if it is right to follow this investment method according to the principles of Bible. There are quite a lot of different investment methods that are available today. However, for Christians it is important to understand which investment methods are correct and which ones they should avoid.

Gold and the Bible

The first thing that Christians investing in gold should do is learn about gold and its importance as per the Bible. Gold is the first metal and the one that is most frequently talked about in the Bible. It has always been considered to be notable and had been highly valued because of its rarity, shimmering beauty, malleability, ductility and weight. Several Hebrew terms in the Old Testament refer to this precious metal. Because of the rarity of gold, it has always had a monetary value which had made it useful for measuring prominence, wealth and for commercial transactions. It had been used for ornamentation and jewelry because of its resistance to tarnishing and oxidation.

Is It Right to Invest in Gold?

A lot of Christians investing in gold would like to know if it is right to invest in gold. According to a recent survey conducted by one of the largest Christian portals, several respondents were asked the same question. According to a majority of the participants, it is wise for Christians to invest in gold but it should not be allowed to get excessive. According to Biblical values it can be said that an investment is right as long as it does not become immoral or illegal. Any Christian who is investing in gold with the motive of becoming rich should take some time to reexamine his/her motives. On the other hand, if Christians think that it is a wise decision to invest in gold as a way of protecting their extra funds then there is nothing wrong with it.

It is important for Christians to take care of their obligations, their family and their needs and to provide for God’s work before they consider investing in gold or in any other precious metal. If after taking care of all your obligations you still have surplus funds, investing it in wise ways can be a good idea. As the main motive of any Christian is to serve God and his/her family your first goal should be to use your income for these motives. However, there is nothing morally wrong in investing the surplus funds you have each month to provide for the future. Christians investing in gold should remember not to let their investments or their quest to get rich get out of their hand.
