As someone who has a large amount of control over their own schedule, productivity and efficiency can make or break profit and working effectiveness. With the boom in entrepreneurship, luckily, has come a rise in blogs meant to help you increase these skills. It can be a challenge to wade through all these blogs, though, and even more of a challenge to put these ideas to work. Here are some productivity blogs to start with, as well as some tips on making them work for you.
For the mindfulness or minimalist guru:
• Zen Habits by Leo Babauta: Zen Habits might be the king of minimalist productivity blogs. With archives going all the way back to January of 2007, Leo has an article on just about everything. Here, you’ll find tips on everything from minimalism to motivation to how to conquer procrastination by learning to deal with discomfort. It’s a health, productivity, and life lessons blog all in one. Use it wisely: it’s easy to get lost in the extensive archives, so limit yourself to a few articles at a time.
• Unclutterer: If you’re looking to get more productive my limiting the excess stuff in your life, Unclutterer is a good place to start. This blog will help you find beauty in simplicity and effectiveness in limiting what comes in, and out, of your life. They’ll also provide a few laughs in their “Unitasker Wednesday” series, when they make fun of products that serve only a single purpose that doesn’t need its own product. They also help guide you through their archives slowly with their “A Year Ago on Unclutterer” series. Read this blog when you’re needing some help simplifying your life.
• Be More with Less by Courtney Carver: This is another minimalism blog, but this one is more focused on the positive personal outcomes of limiting the material excess in your life. This is the blog for you whenever you need some motivation to get rid of the clutter that’s been holding you back.
• Minimal Millennial: Here you have one last minimalism blog, focused on Millennials and the counter-cultural implications of choosing to have more value in your life by living with less. This is the blog to see how minimalism affects the younger set, as well as to get some tips from a young blogger. For the tech lover:
• Lifehacker: The catch-all productivity blog, Lifehacker offers everything from beautiful wallpapers for your desktop to recommendations on apps, gadgets, and journaling techniques to help get you organized. Lifehacker can get a little cluttered with articles that may be irrelevant to you, but it’s also a great source for tips on using your favorite productivity apps and how to get more done at work. To narrow down the posts, try searching the “productivity” tag.
• Make Use Of: This is a great resource for finding information on blogging, using social media, browser tools, tech-related self-improvement, and more. This is another article feed that can give you a lot of irrelevant information, though, so try filtering the posts to the topics you’re interested in.
For the entrepreneur:
• Asian Efficiency: A lesser known, but still useful, blog, Asian Efficiency is centered around how to get the right work done, and more of it. Every post on this blog is centered on productivity, which means it’s unlikely to get clogged up by posts that are irrelevant to you.
• Business Insider: While not a “blog” the same way the other sites on the list are, Business Insider regularly comes out with posts specifically geared toward helping entrepreneurs. Check out the individual categories that interest you.
Reading all of these blogs doesn’t help if it takes too much time away from your actual work. To make the best use of them, use an RSS reader, like Instapaper or Newsify, so that you can get all your productivity blogs in one place without searching all over the internet for them. Designate one time in the day to read them-maybe first thing in the morning with your cup of coffee-and take notes on the strategies that most interest you. Try implementing one or maybe two things at a time. You don’t have to take every piece of advice these blogs give you: only incorporate the things that work for you. Productivity is a personal skill, and only you can find out what tips will be most helpful for your own work.
