Silver dollar coins were originally minted in the 19th Century and have been widely collected since their inception. Some of the most well known of these coins include The Carson City Mint’s 1878 Morgan Silver Dollar; the very rare uncirculated 1996 Silver Eagle; and the 2000 Silver American Eagle.
Why are these coins to popular? It is hardly a secret that silver dollar coins definitely appreciate in value. That is why so many purchase them. However, it is not accurate to state that these coins only have value in collector circles. Currently, silver dollar coins are popular in the realm investing. Specifically, many former proponents of stock market investing are turning towards silver dollar coins. Okay, some may have been taken by that statement. Are silver coins really that desirably by investors? The answer is yes and one of the main reasons for this is the significant need for a hedge investment.
Hedges are, essentially, components of an investment portfolio designed to offset losses. Because of the extreme instability in the current global stock market, it is difficult to find a publicly traded stock that can effectively hedge. In the past, real estate has been employed for this purpose but real estate has certainly proven to be less than viable in the aftermath of the housing crisis. That is why so many people are turning to the precious metals market as a hedge option. For many, this has definitely paid off.
It is necessary to mention that most people do not look towards silver dollar coins as a hedge and this may not an unwise oversight. One reason they may be avoiding the silver coin market is that they are interested in putting their money into gold instead. Now, investing in gold is certainly not a bad idea. Gold has delivered tremendous results for those that have explored their options with it. Today, gold can be considered the number one precious metals hedge investment. However, platinum and silver are also viable with silver being more viable due to its inexpensive cost. Additionally, silver has also done well on the world markets making it a potentially safe investment.
Then, there is another reason why people may not be using silver dollar coins as a hedge investment. That reason is they do not realize you can invest in precious metal coins. Many assume that precious metals come in the form of bars. This is not always the case as coins remain a major component in the world of precious metals investing. In fact, silver dollar coins may turn out to be even more preferable investments since they possess a collectability factor that silver bars may not possess.
Silver dollar coins may very well end up becoming the top choice of those looking to procure a helpful (and much needed) hedge investment. Even more conservative investors are looking at silver dollar coins as a viable investment strategy. This should really not come as much of a surprise. Silver has been a valuable commodity for centuries. Granted, it has been a speculative commodity at times but this may be changing in the near future.
The stock market and the world of real estate may not be the most stable environment for people’s savings. That is why precious metals may turn out to be the hope of the future for investors. Perhaps silver dollar coins may be one of the wiser investment options one could take.
