Black Sapphire

Jewelry is considered as a fashion accessory to some people, while others would see it as a sign of love and fidelity. Some however express their style and their artistic mind by wearing and creating new jewelries. Most of the time, these unique pieces are handcrafted or made using a wax technology with precious metals such as gold, silver, platinum or even brass. But when it comes to creating a unique and astonishing jewel, gemstones are most of the time used in the setting.

Natural gemstones not only become part of the creation, but they become the main feature around which the jewelry is designed and built. We can find the natural gems in all kind of color, quality and prices. What are so special about precious stones are the vibrations, the colors, the sparkles and the energy that is coming from them. While diamonds are still the most popular and sought after, other gems have also their value in the Jewelry, we can think of sapphires, emeralds, rubies…

Diamonds are white and sparkles and they are priced very highly. But many other gemstones are colorless and sparkle intensively. We can easily think of white sapphires or zircons. They are only worth a fraction of the diamond’s price because of the market conditions, meaning they are not sought after like diamonds by customers worldwide. But more and more we can see a new trend starting inside the jewelry industry. The artistic designers and creators are exhausted of using white diamonds and other white gems. They have been exploited so much in the market. Something new has to be created and we now see high end jewelry using many different colors. They even use natural white diamonds and artificially make them colorful; they can then be called Blue Diamonds even though the color is not natural. Their customers still value them highly because of the name they wear. So some very famous designers started also creating jewelry with what we call black diamonds. They are sparkling and still expensive. But what about the other black gemstones just as beautiful and that are 100% natural?

Well if we ask many people right now if they want a black gemstone ring, their answer would probably be no. This could be because they never seen them or because they never had a high value in the eyes of the society. But black diamonds are priced higher than many colorful gemstones such as citrines or amethysts. This is because of the diamond name it has, which is almost like a brand name by itself.

But let’s get back to the black gemstones. What are the other ones you have heard about? Probably Onyx would be the first in your mind. While Onyx has been used for very long time in jewelry, they are not so popular with the best designers and creators because of their fragility and their lack of luster. But the low price of these gems can be used in jewelry that will be attractive to the people only because of the presence of natural gemstones. There are also the black Spinels that are mainly sourced and manufactured in Thailand. They are pretty gems and have a nice brilliance in them while being completely black. But the name of Spinel, that hasn’t been commercialized and explained enough to the public, has kept them in the shadow of the other black precious stones.

So where are we going with this? Because if you are considering the use in jewelry or the purchase of a natural black gemstone your choices seems limited and none is perfect. Black diamonds are highly priced, black onyx are fragile and lack the sparkles that make all the difference, while black Spinels are unknown to the people. But there is hope for all of us…

A sapphire is a natural gemstone known by everyone. Most people associate it with the most beautiful and brilliant of all the blue gems, and they are probably right. Sapphires have always been in the imagination and mind of the people since a very long time ago. The blue color and the shining of this precious stone cannot be compared with any other gems. You have probably also heard of what we call the fancy sapphires. These are all the sapphires that come under a different color then blue. They can be of pink, purple, green, yellow, orange and black. Yes, black sapphires, probably the most unknown of all of them. But having all the characteristics of a natural sapphire when they come under the black color, they become the most attractive of any black precious stones. They are hard and resistant just like all corundum. They are shining and sparkling because of the physical properties of a natural sapphire that make the luster so appealing. They are also inexpensive, about a tenth of the black diamond prices but the most important feature of them after you understand the market value of gemstones resides in its name: Sapphire.

Sapphires are sought after and highly regarded by jewelry customers all around the world.

So when considering all of this factors, if you are looking to create a new jewelry that hasn’t been exploited yet, you can go with a shining black gemstones and to be more precise, a natural black sapphire would be your best bet.

So let me ask you, are you a trend follower or an innovator?
